Summer Bar Guide

With fewer Ohio University students on campus during summer sessions, Athens is definitely a different place. That goes for the bars too.

“It’s a lot more laid back,” said Garrett Epure, bartender at Red Brick Tavern, 14 N. Court St. “It’s more of a regular crowd than a huge crowd.”

But some bars have been experiencing steady business despite most people being gone for the summer.

“It’s actually been a lot busier than expected,” said Jeremy Strickland, an employee at Courtside Pizza, 85 N. Court St. “So far it’s been really good.”

For those who have chosen to stick around, The Summer Post presents its 2008 summer bar guide.

Some deals will be around all day, everyday during the summer. Some include: $1.50 Miller High Life and all light (or lite) bottles at Cat’s Eye Saloon, 12 N. Court St.; $1 well shots and $2 Long Island iced teas at Courtside; $2 domestic mega mugs, $1 domestic pints, $1 domestic bottles and 35 cent wings at Red Brick; $2 pints of Jackie O’s microbrews from 8 to 9 p.m. at Jackie O’s, 24 W. Union St.; half-price appetizers after 10 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, 23 W. Union St.; free mini barbecue sandwiches starting at 5 p.m. at 19 South, 19 S. Court St.; $3.50 22 ounce daiquiris at The Crystal, 34 N.Court St.; and $2.50 aquariums at The Pub, 39. N. Court St..

The Union and The Junction could not be reached.

A diner or drinker at Casa Cantina, 4 W. State St., will find that specials stick to different seasonal drinks and food rather than price. The bar’s infused vodka, now including mixed melon, creates refreshing and unique options. Featured imports are on special every day, and Wednesdays are open stage night with $1 off margaritas.

Lucky’s specials are not yet available as the bar is currently undergoing remodeling. Stop in and specials should be available by next Thursday.

The Summer Post has sorted through the various summer specials to give you a day-by-day guide of our picks for the best deals on dining and drinking every day of the week. Check The Post’s Web site for a full listing of bar specials.
