University Program Council’s second annual Taste of Athens is bringing food, crafts and music together on one lawn tomorrow.
The event will take place in front of South Green’s Front Four from noon to 5 p.m. and will give people a chance to sample what Athens has to offer, from restaurants to shops and local bands.
As of yesterday, only three Athens restaurants are scheduled to participate in the event, a drop from last year’s 15. The three are Souvlaki’s Mediterranean Garden, 9 W. State St., Abrio’s Brick Oven, 270 E. State St. and Casa Nueva, 4 W. State St.
Leah Grill, UPC vice president, said the event has only three restaurants participating because UPC wanted to decrease the amount of food to make room for shops and their merchandise, a feature just added this year.
Shops including Themes, 61 N. Court St., Mountain Laurel Gifts, 25 S. Court St. and The Other Place, 43 S. Court St., will sell clothing, accessories and crafts.
Athens bands Princes of Hollywood, El Fabuloso, Vintage Green and Victor Rasgaitis will perform.
UPC is expecting at least 200 people to show up for the event.
“We want Taste of Athens to be an interactive, laid-back, fun event for everyone,” Grill said.
