An Ohio University graduate student charged with his father’s murder was transferred back to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail yesterday from a “maximum security” mental health facility in Columbus, county officials said.
Jonathan Bebb, 32, is under administrative segregation at the regional jail in Nelsonville, separating him from the general jail population, said Jeremy Tolson, jail warden. He cannot be released from jail on bond without a new bond hearing, said C. David Warren, Athens County prosecutor.
“He’s just not out walking around OU’s campus, that’s what we want to get out,” he said.
Bebb has been incarcerated since he was arrested Sept. 25 for the alleged murder of his father, OU professor Phillip Bebb. Bond was originally set at $250,000 on the condition he live with his mother and remain a law-biding citizen.
Bebb was moved to the Timothy B. Moritz Forensic Unit at the Twin Valley Behavioral Health Care Campus in Columbus Oct. 3 for a mental evaluation requested by his attorney, R.J. Shostak. The evaluation is intended to determine if Bebb is competent enough to help prepare his defense, Warren said.
The Twin Valley Behavioral Health Care Center completed their psychiatric evaluation of Bebb, but the results are not available yet, Warren said.
Warren met with Athens Municipal Court Judge William Grim and Shostak yesterday to discuss the case, Warren said.
