Debate about a proposal to limit parties at two or more houses will continue tonight at a city council committee meeting.
The proposal has never come before the council for a reading or a vote, but several students, mostly Student Senate members, went to the April 6 council meeting to voice their concerns about such a proposal.
A first draft of the proposal focused more on individual parties, but Councilman Ed Baum, R-at-large, revised the first draft of the proposal because it was too strict, he said.
The first proposal required residents planning to have a party with 25 people or more to purchase a permit for $30.
The biggest difference between the original draft and Baum's revised proposal was a change in focus from one-house parties to those at two or more houses. The second version of the proposal does not include the 25-person limit at parties, but the $30 deposit is stil non-refundable.
Members of the Streets and Recreation Committee will discuss the proposal at 7 p.m. in the City Building. Committee members Dale Tampke, D-at-large; Jimmy Stewart, R-Ward 1; and Patrick Lang, D-Ward 2, have said they are concerned about the specifics of the proposal.
