"For one week we show how well we can work together," he said.
Each of OU's 12 sororities and 17 fraternities were grouped into teams and competed in Airbands and other activities, including volleyball, football, aquatic games and philanthropy last week.
Eight judges, including Joel Rudy, dean of students and vice president for student affairs, and Athens City Councilman Jimmy Stewart, evaluated the Airbands performances on creativity, choreography, lip synching, and props.
While some teams started preparing for Airbands at the end of Winter Quarter, junior Emily Morris, an Alpha Gamma Delta sorority member, said her team began preparations last month.
"My favorite part was the Airbands," she said. "We make it one of the most heavily weighted parts of Greek Week."
Besides fun and games, Greek Week provided services to the community.
This year, students raised $465 for OU's Binge Drinking Awareness Coalition by charging $1 admission to the first Greek God and Goddess Contest, a pageant-like competition, opening games coordinator Matt Eby said.
Penny Wars also rolled in $3,340 for the Hocking Valley Community Residential Center.
As part of the philanthropy, students donated blood and collected aluminium cans for recycling throughout the week.
