New alumni relations director named

Ralph Amos, an assistant vice president of the Ohio State University Alumni Association, has been named executive director of Alumni Relations at OU effective June 5.

Five in jail after fight two decks

A fight, which began at a bar and spilled out into West Union Street early Saturday morning, ended when police arrested six people, including one who escaped, one who works at the bar and two who are OU football players.

The people of Athens County have the moral authority to help set a national agenda, said Rev. Jesse Jackson, who hosted a town meeting on OU public television last night. Jackson and a group of five panelists representing local environmental, educational, health care and economic interests, discussed the problems of Southeast Ohio and Appalachia and their roots in a national class division that often buries Appalachia and rural places.

Friends reported a first-year student missing to the Ohio University Police Department Sunday morning.


No injuries in Mill fire

A fire ripped through a Mill Street apartment early Saturday morning, causing $35,000 worth of damage.
A multi-plug electrical strip that shorted ignited the blaze at 41 Mill Street, Athens Fire Department Captain George Klinger said.
