THE POST

Giving clarification
Editor,

In regards to yesterday's editorial, a point of clarification should be made. ("Greeks take blame, action," Sept. 9) As a greek community, we have chosen to make rush an alcohol-free event.

However, the statement, "If a member of a sorority is seen drinking Uptown, even if she is over 21, her chapter will be punished, with possibilities of losing rush and social privileges," is incorrect.

As a greek community, we cannot make restrictions on where an individual chooses to spend his or her time, whether that be their residence, the library or even Uptown.

I would appreciate it if this statement could be corrected and the point emphasized that although all sorority functions will be alcohol- free during rush, we would be limiting their freedom of choice as an individual by restricting where they are able to go outside of these events.

Giving credit
Editor,

I am writing this letter to thank you for your coverage of the "Choose Ping" event held here at the Ping Center Sept. 6. ("New students 'Choose Ping,'" Sept. 8) The turnout for the event was great with numbers reaching the 3,000 mark. Overall, the event was a success for the entire university.

Success for this event would not have been possible without the help of several organizations.

The Ping Center was very happy to be able to host the event, but it was certainly not the Ping Center that was solely responsible for the success of this event. We were fortunate enough to work with several departments on campus.

First off, I would like to thank all the volunteers who came out and stuck it out until 2 a.m. with us. Your help was greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank the Division of Student Affairs, who played a major role in the planning and development of "Choose Ping." We felt working with the Division of Student Affairs was really an honor and a privilege. We look forward to working with them in the future.

I would also like to thank Tamara Jarrett, director of Ping Center, for coming out and donating her time as well. She was instrumental in the successful operation of the event.

Once again, thank you to everyone who had a hand in "Choose Ping," including our sponsors.

Joe Hines
Ping Center Facility Manager
