Members of the Ohio University administration and the Department of Residence Life discussed the hiring and placement of the additional staff hired for Halloween weekend at a meeting yesterday.
The university will supplement the standard residence life staff with additional paid staff this year, Vice President for Administration Gary North said at a news conference last week.
OU will spend $110,000 on additional staff to work Halloween weekend this year, North said. This is nearly four times the amount spent in the past.
At yesterday's meeting, the logistics of staff placement for both paid staff and green jacket volunteers was discussed, said Mike Sostarich, the interim vice president for student affairs.
Associate Vice President for Administration Ted Kohan said the university has hired people to fill the additional positions. About 210 people responded to the call for additional paid workers and about 120 were hired.
"The university posted for positions for people to sign up to work overtime hours for the weekend," he said. "Locations will be assigned by residence life based on their needs."
Director of Residence Life Joseph Burke said the meeting involved the preliminary planning of where the staff will be stationed on Friday and Saturday night of Halloween weekend.
"Basically they'll be in and around the exterior doors to the residence halls on all three residential greens," Burke said.
Burke said the staff would be particularly concentrated around the parking garage areas on the ground floors of South and West Green residence halls.
"There are 78 spaces on the greens that need to be staffed for Halloween," Burke said. "We're doing this for safety and security reasons."
