The Ohio University Student Senate addressed concerns last night about the possibility of students getting arrested during Halloween Weekend and being taken to the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
The senate will have brochures available at the jail to provide students with information about state laws explaining how long they can be held in custody, what their rights are and how they can get a ride home, Shannon Bibbee, senate vice president, said.
For their safety, students and their guests need to make sure they are aware of the consequences of getting arrested this weekend, Bibbee said.Bibbee said he hopes these brochures will ease the students who are taken to jail, he said.
In other business, senate Treasurer Judy Croxton reported on the Student Activities Commission application process for Winter Quarter.
The SAC commission has received more than 100 applications requesting more than $200,000, Croxton said.
SAC only has $40,000 to allocate, and the commission is going to the University Planning Advisory Council with a proposal for an additional $50,000, she said.
The SAC funding for Winter Quarter will be posted Nov. 13, Croxton said.
