The Athens County Sheriff Department will continue to investigate the cause of a Jacksonville resident's death by taking evidence to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation in London, Ohio, today for laboratory analysis, Sheriff David Redecker said.
Robert J. Kuhne, 60, was found dead in his bedroom Sunday with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The Sheriff Department has not yet classified the case as a homicide because it does not have conclusive evidence to substantiate the charge, Redecker said.
The preliminary coroner's report was not available from the Franklin County Coroner's Office, and Redecker had not received any results as of yesterday, he said.
"We're still treating this as a questionable death," Redecker said.
Sheriff's deputies found Kuhne's body and a gun after they received a 911 call reporting his death, according to a Sheriff Department news release.
Kuhne was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the coroner's office.
The final report will not be ready for several weeks, according to the Franklin County Coroner's Office. The report will include the cause of death, which will determine the course of the Sheriff Department's investigation.
The Sheriff Department takes all evidence needing laboratory analysis to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Redecker said.
