The Ohio wrestling team fell to Central Michigan in the Mid-American Conference Tournament as Central stole the show for the second-straight year.

Kent, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, Miami and Eastern Michigan rounded out the tournament placements, respectively.

Central took the trophy from defending champion Ohio last year 116-65. This year, Central did a little better (124.5) and Ohio did a little worse (60.5). Central has now set a record two years running for the most team points scored in the tournament. The Bobcats fared well as a team, placing second in the tournament in Dekalb, Ill., Saturday and Sunday, but they failed to place first in any weight division and, thus, the tournament.

"We just lost some close matches," Ohio head coach Joel Greenlee said. "Central Michigan had an outstanding performance as a team."

Ohio placed nine out of 10 wrestlers in the top four. Five went on to the championship match. Five placed second. None placed first.

Aaron Cooper (149 lbs.), Adam Whitlach (157), Josh Heffernan (184), Dan Bednar (197) and Neal Harvey (heavyweight) made it to the championship match in each of their weight divisions.

Whitlach gave the fans a show with a major decision in the quarterfinals and an overtime win in the semi-finals.

Heffernan received a technical fall victory 17-1 in the quarterfinals and a major decision 11-2 in the semi-finals. Shawn Brightman (165), unseeded before the tournament, placed fourth for Ohio. Central Michigan had the personnel needed to win the tournament. Central's Casey Cunningham was named MAC Wrestler of the Year and the MAC Championships Outstanding Wrestler. His coach, Tom Borrelli, was named MAC Coach of the Year.

Cunningham is one of eight Central wrestlers who will head to the NCAAs March 18 to March 20.

Whitlach and Heffernan were voted wild cards for the national tournament for Ohio, and Bednar and Harvey are alternates.
