Ohio University students might be able to have one extra guest at the next Halloween.
Student Senate passed a resolution last night to support a policy proposal that will allow on-campus residents to invite two guests for the weekend.
The senate Halloween committee met weekly Winter Quarter to discuss this year's policies, said Jim Hintz, senator for South Green.
Besides the number of guests, the committee discussed the issue of students wearing wristbands.
The committee found the wristbands were an effective way to monitor students. However, it suggested OU look into other options, he said.
Suggestions for wristband alternatives were ultraviolet stamps that show up under black lights or wristbands that look like souvenirs, he said.
Cost and effectiveness also must be considered when exploring options, Hintz said.
The committee also wants to educate students about Halloween and send them information with university bills. This also would inform parents and off-campus students about the policies, Hintz said.
Other suggestions for improved Halloween education were explaining OU's polices during Precollege and in housing contracts, he said.
The committee also recommended more publicity for parking at the Athens County Fairgrounds on West Union Street, he said.
Senate members plan to meet with OU President Robert Glidden to discuss the proposal.
In other business, the senate passed a resolution to endorse Athens' annexation of The Ridges and urged members of City Council and the County Board of Commissioners to act as soon as possible.
The annexation will allow the Ridges to receive Athens utility services such as trash collection, said Pat Hall, senator for off-campus housing.
"We are trying to show we take an interest in the city we live in," he said.
Senate also passed a resolution that urges Ohio's legislators to pass House Bill 43, which would prohibit universities from discriminating against all forms of speech, except hate speech.
