New editor picked
THE POST
Ryan Alessi, a junior journalism major from Baltimore, Md., will be editor of The Post for the 1999-2000 school year. The Post Publishing Board elected Alessi yesterday.
Alessi is studying newswriting and editing specializing in political science. This year, he has served as The Post's in-depth editor and previously worked as a staff writer on the campus and Nelsonville staffs.
Some of Alessi's goals for the next year include improving accuracy throughout the newspaper, fostering aggressiveness in reporters to use innovative techniques when gathering news and writing stories and expanding investigative coverage, he said.
"The Post has a tradition of providing excellent coverage of the OU campus, and next year we hope to continue expanding our coverage into the Athens community," he said. "This year's staff is an extremely talented and enthusiastic group and I hope this energy will continue throughout the coming school year."
Alessi is president of Ohio University's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, a member of Golden Key National Honor Society and a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. He also participates in intramural sports.
He will spend this summer reporting in Washington, D.C.
