Gam laundry to expand, add new washers, dryers
FOR THE POST
The weekly or sometimes monthly chore of doing laundry will be a little easier next year for Ohio University students who live on East Green.
OU has plans to expand the laundry facilities at Gamertsfelder Hall, said Bob Hynes, director of residence and auxiliary services.
The idea for this expansion stems from the OU Student Senate Residence Life commission, which suggested the area next to the Gam laundry room be used as an extension to the laundry facilities, said Jeff Owens, the residence life commissioner.
Residence and auxiliary services met with the senate and concerned faculty and decided the current laundry room did not meet the capacity of people who wanted to do laundry there, Hynes said.
The room is not of good quality and needs to be upgraded, he said. He said he hopes to make it more pleasant, and to possibly equip the laundry room with televisions, tables and chairs.
There will be an addition of 12 washers and 10 dryers, and students still will be able to use Bobcat Cash, Owens said.
Hynes said he hopes to have the new laundry facilities finished no later than Fall Quarter 1999.
The construction probably will not begin until summer because of the noise pollution, Hynes said.
