Hudson considers new lunch hours

There is the possibility of Hudson Health Center changing its lunch hours to accommodate more Ohio University students, but OUwill not decide until later this quarter.
Jason Barron, the OU Student Senate university life commissioner, and other members of the senate met with Jackie Legg, the Hudson Health Service business manager, last week to discuss the possibility of changing its hours.
"We're just opening up a dialogue with them," Barron said.
The meeting stemmed from a resolution the senate passed last week, which encouraged Hudson to change their lunch hour to 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The senate's research showed fewer OU students have class during the 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. slot, so more students would be able to take advantage of Hudson at that time.
Barron said Legg was very perceptive of the idea.
However, even though Hudson is interested in trying to change its hours, it is not something that will be implemented this quarter. Hudson will make a determination about the change later this quarter, Legg said.
Currently, Hudson operates with five doctors and 20 staff members, and even though there are no physicians during Hudson's lunch hour, other Hudson services are available.
Hudson's pharmacy, labs and reception area are open during lunch, Legg said.
OU students said they think an earlier lunch hour would be beneficial to students.
"This year it wouldn't make a difference, but in past years that Hudson's lunch hour) has been a bad time," said junior Kristen Lamanna. "I think it would be a good change."
Sophomore Robyn Moser agreed that changing Hudson's lunch hour to 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. would be a good idea.
There is a good chance that an earlier lunch time would be more convenient, Moser said .
"Twelve o'clock can be a bad time for students," she said.
