End image myth
THE POST
Editor,
I am responding to yesterday's letter "Image Consequence." It's funny how people read an article, with a drunken student pictured, and attribute that to OU as a whole.
It's funny to hear parents say, "I'll never send my kids to OU" based solely on what the media says about Halloween and Daylight Saving Time. It's funny how people buy into what the media says about OU when most members never attended nor spent some time here getting to know the students and campus as a whole. It's funny when people say,
"OU is just a party school." If this were true, the president of my fraternity would serve alcohol at Sunday chapter meetings and my instructors would reward me with a six-pack for every exam I aced.
Thursday's article is an example of closed-mindedness. The writer (unless it was just a bad day at the office), co-workers and the media fall into this category.
The writer and the co-workers jumped to conclusions after reading the article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. I know everyone, including myself, makes this same mistake, but if you're going to take it this far, try assessing the situation with an open mind in the future.

"Freshman enrollment increased again," Sept. 23. Whitney Simmons was misidentified as Wendy Simmons.
"RAD teaches defense," Sept. 23. In addition to Ohio University Police officers, Mrs. Trina Bookman is an instructor of PESS 120. This fact was omitted from the story because of reporting error.
