Recruitment kicks off by Nikki Klemmer

The 523 women who registered for sorority recruitment, formerly known as rush, will undergo a different schedule from past years.
The events will take place over two consecutive weekends instead of throughout one week, said Amy Owens, president of the Women's Panhellenic Association.
"I really like that it's on the weekend," said Danielle Donofrio, a sophomore Chi Omega sorority member. "It's more relaxed, because school work doesn't get in the way."
Although the schedule allows time for students during the week, not all potential members feel it is to their benefit.
"I didn't know it was that much of a time commitment," freshman Kami Kinnett said. "It made me think twice about rushing, but I still want to do it."
Recruitment begins tomorrow and Saturday with Welcome Days. Potential members will visit all chapter houses for tours.
After these two days, both the women and the chapters will narrow down their choices.
On Sunday, the women will visit a maximum of seven chapter houses for First Events. The chapters will conduct service projects related to their national philanthropies, said Carole Cox, assistant director of student activities for greek life.
Women undergoing the recruitment process are guided by the "maximizing their options" policy.
If a woman receives more invitations than are allowed for a scheduled event, she must narrow her choices. If she receives less, she must accept all of them or she will be withdrawn from the process, Cox said.
"This gives them an opportunity to keep their options open and help them find a place where they will fit," she said.
After a weeklong break, the women will return for Second Events on Friday, Oct. 8. The sororities then will perform skits that are designed to express the personality of the chapter, Cox said.
Preference, when the women can visit a maximum of three sororities, will take place the next night. After visiting all three chapter houses, the women will rank each chapter in preferential order.
They will receive their official invitations to join on Bid Day, Sunday, Oct. 10.
To help potential members navigate their way through this process, Rho Chis, or recruitment officers, meet with the women to answer any questions they have regarding recruitment.
Each chapter nominates three members to be Rho Chis, who then go through interviews. The WPA selects 40 women, who disaffiliate from their chapters when students move in to school.
"The Rho Chis were really helpful," freshman Lauren Benzle said. "They gave us their numbers and said we could call whenever we had questions."
