Men's golf finishes third

The Post

The Ohio men's golf team continues its improvement as the fall season winds down.

The Bobcats, led by Joe Hill and Eric Herberth, tied for a third place finish yesterday at The Persimmon Ridge Intercollegiate hosted by Louisville. Both players shot a three-over-par 147 -- good enough for a fifth-place tie. Tyler Duke finished in a tie for 18th place.

This third-place finish for the Bobcats comes on the heels of a sixth-place finish at The Xavier Provident Invitational on Oct. 13. Ohio finished in an eighth-place tie at The Legends Invitational co-hosted by Ball State and Indiana on Oct. 5.

Notre Dame finished first in the field of 18, shooting a 593. Ohio trailed the Fighting Irish by nine strokes.

The Bobcats were in second place after the first round, trailing Morehead State by four strokes. On the second day, Notre Dame and Western Kentucky recorded the two lowest team scores of the tournament to finish in first and second, respectively.

Ohio finished the tournament 14 strokes ahead of Mid-American Conference rival Marshall and 19 strokes in front of MAC foe Akron.

Eric Mason of Western Kentucky was the individual medalist of the tournament, shooting a two under par 142.

The Bobcats wrap up their fall season on Oct. 25-26, traveling to Nags Head, NC to compete in The Seascape Collegiate Invitational hosted by Old Dominion.
