After a historic weekend for the Ohio field hockey program, the team is ranked No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference and No. 19 in STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll.

The STX/NFHCA poll marks the second time in the program's history that the Bobcats have been ranked nationally, the first came on Sept. 21.

Jen Watt earned recognition this week for her performance in the Bobcats' wins over both then No. 15 Ball State and Central Michigan.

Along with being named the MAC Pepsi Player of the Week for field hockey, Watt was named Hockeypoint Division I Player of the Week.

The recognition marks the first time an Ohio player received this honor from Hockeypoint, a well-known Web site devoted to collegiate field hockey.

Watt said she is excited about the honor.

"I am so shocked, it felt good to be looked at and recognized for this weekend," she said. "(I am glad) the whole team got recognized as well."

The team's win over Ball State was named as Hockeypoint's Division I game of the week.

Watt contributed to four of the five Bobcats goals over the weekend. helping Ohio sweep its weekend games.

Ohio Head Coach Shelly Morris said she is not surprised by the recognition Watt received after the games this weekend.

In the match against Ball State, Watt provided the first goal for the team and assisted on the second. Her performance aided the Bobcats in their first win over Ball State since 1990. The win also put an end to the Cardinals 64-game regular season MAC winning streak.

Morris said the team has some tough matchups ahead of it.

"Miami has nothing to lose; we have everything to lose," she said. "Teams are going to be gunning for us."

Ohio travels to Louisville at 2 p.m. Friday and to Miami at 1 p.m. Saturday.
