Giving blood to help
THE POST

Editor,

The upcoming blood drives on this campus Oct. 25 and 26 are at Nelson Down Under. I really do encourage everyone to donate blood. There are only about three chances per quarter. If someone is either interested in donating blood at either of these two drives or interested in sponsoring a blood drive please call 593-5273.

I applaud everyone's hard work on the Sept. 21 blood drive, especially Nancy Schnell. We at the Red Cross could not have done it without her. Donating blood helps save a life. I hope to see everyone Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bring back Pod-Pod
THE POST

Editor,

Does anyone remember the days when a huge, offensive cartoon-rhinoceros would, on a weekly basis, reduce sorority girls to tears, wantonly kill hippies, and in general piss-off every conceivable group or club ever formed? I long for these days, the days when a reader could get good and worked up over the second to last page of The Post and join a growing pitchfork-wielding mob intent on destruction and revenge.

But alas, Post cartoons these days seem intent on amusement, rather than anger; on mirth, rather than mayhem. I recently interviewed Jeff Willey, an Ohio University fraternity member as an undergraduate, over this cartoon crisis. When asked if he had ever been offended by a Post cartoon during his student career at OU, he replied, "Not recently. I miss Pod-Pod!"

I myself have not felt the least bit upset, let alone simmered with rage, over a cartoon in a good two years. We can only hope that some day in the near future our cartoonists will develop a mean streak, or that at least Ben Lammers will return to Ohio University.

Donations help OU
THE POST

Editor,

I was glad to see the article about endowments, "Fundraising methods benefit students" in yesterday's Post. As the representative for the Greater Cincinnati Alumni Chapter I attended the reception Sept. 24 for donors and scholarship recipients. This was a lovely function given by the administration to provide an opportunity for the two groups to meet.

Congratulations to all those students who made time to attend, thereby showing your appreciation for the gift you have received. I wish to emphasize an endowment requires a minimum of $15,000 - that is a fair chunk of change for an individual to give at one time. Our chapter spent years raising funds for our endowment. This year we received thank you notes from three of the four student scholars, but none attended the reception. Last year we did not hear from any of the four selected students. This apathy (and/or poor manners) is not unique to our chapter.

I know the administration works hard to generate these contributions and encourages the students to acknowledge the gifts, but it must seem like a thankless task at times. Keep up the good work.
