Fraternities awaiting decisions about alleged alcohol violations
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity did not decide Friday whether to have
its case decided by a five-person hearing board or an Ohio University
Office of Judiciaries administrator.
"We have not made any resolutions at this time," said Judy Piercy,
director of OU's Office of Judiciaries, on Friday. "It is going to take
some time."
Pi Kappa Alpha is facing charges stemming from a pledge event on
Feb. 28 to March 1 during which some of the fraternity's big brothers
and pledges allegedly consumed alcohol in their fraternity house. An event
such as this would violate OU's Student Code of Conduct sections A-17,
aiding and abetting, and B-7, having alcohol in common areas of a fraternity
house.
Six Pi Kappa Alpha big brothers' judiciaries hearings on A-17 charges
were scheduled to begin Friday.
Another fraternity also is awaiting a decision from Judiciaries.
Judiciaries heard an appeal Friday from the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity
on a charge the fraternity violated the greek alcohol policy on Dads'
Weekend.
"I can not release any information to the media until I talk to the
fraternity first," Piercy said. "We usually do this through a formal letter
or talking to them on the phone."
Decisions on both fraternities should be announced sometime
this week, Piercy said.
