Damon's really is "A Dining Event!"
by Rachel Guard
For The Post
Damon's, which boasts itself as "A dining event!,"
combines good food, games and drinks. The upbeat atmosphere and smiley
wait staff make the dining experience more than the usual eat-and-run
deal.
Although the menu at Damon's, 859 E. State St., is parallel to most
chain restaurants of its type, it rates a bit higher because of the extensive
list of appetizers, sandwiches and signature ribs. Appetizers includes
the basic loaded potato skins, which are a little tastier than most, and
chicken wings, but also extend to a delicious platter of San Antonio Spring
Rolls and Damon's Famous Onion Loaf with house dipping sauce.
The salad and soup and pasta menus are both a bit skimpy, but they
offer something for everyone. As for the rest of the menu, the Damon's
famous and delicious ribs, combo steak and fish platters, and extensive
list of sandwiches make choosing one meal difficult.
The prices are fairly reasonable, too. My yummy chicken Parmesan
sandwich, with fries and as many pickles as I wanted, was only $6.99.
The combination platters, which come with a salad, two side dishes and
rolls, cost up to $17.99. And though that may seem expensive for a college
student, the amount of food served is well worth every penny.
The décor theme is sports, including photos, memorabilia,
uniforms and equipment from schools around the Athens area. The Clubhouse
is equipped with four giant TVs that give guests a chance to participate
in NTN, a network game, or watch sports or news. On busy nights, one of
the Damon's servers plays emcee for the night by announcing contests,
winners of NTN and prizes for people who choose to participate in any
of the games.
Some Damon's patrons are not there to participate or watch any games,
but instead to throw back a cold one. A bar that offers Damon's signature
Golden Margarita, eight beers on tap and other beverages are open to anyone
of age. To the left of the bar is a dining room with small, muted TVs
for those patrons who want to enjoy a quiet meal. This room's atmosphere
is more serene and not as spirited as the rest of the restaurant.
Damon's restaurant is a great choice for a good meal, fun drinks
and interactive games the next time a night calls for entertainment and
good food.
