Student falls from climbing wall, sustains serious spinal injuries

An Ohio University student is being treated for spinal injuries after an accident at the Ping Center Tuesday evening.

OU junior Matthew Holbrook fell while he was descending from Ping Center's climbing wall at about 9:20 p.m., OU Police Department Officer Don Combs said. The incident was an accident.

"He was coming down off the wall and fell and landed on the mat," Combs said.

Holbrook was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for spinal injuries. He is listed in serious condition, said Janet Porter, Grant spokesperson.

"He has a neck injury and shoulder pain," she said.
