Fraternity makes final appeal
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity submitted an appeal to
Ohio University President Robert Glidden yesterday after the OU Office
of Judiciaries appeal board denied the fraternity's first appeal on April
12.
The chapter appealed to the board because it felt some of its sanctions
were too severe, said Judy Piercy, director of OU judiciaries.
Pi Kappa Alpha members are asking to keep their parietal exemption,
which lets sophomores live in their house, Piercy said. The fraternity
also wants to participate in informal recruitment.
Judiciaries levied a one-year suspension against the fraternity April
2 for violations stemming from a pledge event in which both pledges and
active members drank excessive amounts of alcohol Feb. 28 - March 1.
The appeal to the president is the second and final opportunity to
appeal a decision made by judiciaries, Piercy said. Glidden has no time
limit to make his decision.
The Athens Police Department has charged the fraternity with hazing.
It faces a pre-trial hearing today in Athens City Municipal Court.
