Team deserves to be recognized

Editor,

As I read Tuesday's Post, a little saying came to mind: "Equal representation." You are probably wondering exactly what I mean by this. I am talking about the old debate of men vs. women. Mainly, I am talking about The Post's lack of support for women's sports.

I was reading the newspaper, as I am required to do every Tuesday and Friday for my Precision Language class, when I came across the article "Rugby tackles second place." Because of this headline, I was expecting to read about the rugby teams. Yes, teams. I was, however, disappointed to find that the article was only about the men's game. Maybe The Post is unaware of the fact that Ohio University has a women's rugby team! They too competed in Saturday's tournament and did just as well as the men did.

The women's rugby team works just as hard as, if not harder, than the men's team. I know many of the women on the rugby team don't just play rugby - they live it. These athletes spend numerous hours, rain or shine, preparing to compete, and when they arrive on the field, they step into a new world. If you have ever been to a women's rugby game, you can see their dedication to the sport.

The women of OU's rugby team were dedicated the weekend of the tournament. Despite injuries and the brutality of the sport, these women took the field and played their best. They too received second place. In the head-to-head combat, these athletes proved their equality to men. They now deserve their recognition.

If The Post is going to congratulate the men in their efforts, its staff is obliged to do the same for the women. In the future, the dedicated players of the women's rugby team and I would appreciate if you gave them the same recognition you give the men.
