Alexander Local School Board reviews teacher contracts

The Alexander Local School Board reviewed and ratified a two-year contract for the teacher's union, the Alexander Local Education Association, in an executive session last night.

In other news, the board accepted a $7,500 donation from the Ohio Education Support Group to be given to the district's transportation department to buy a robot. The robot will be used to teach elementary school students about bus safety and eventually fire safety, said Dale Sinclair, transportation supervisor.

The board is also looking to ask the state for a portion of its tobacco settlement money to build a new high school. Board members hope to hold a forum with Ohio Representatives John A. Carey, R-Wellston, Larry Householder, R-Glenford, and Nancy P. Hollister, R-Marietta, in April to address community concerns about building.

Board member Dave Kasler motioned to create a calendar with set board meeting times and places to increase community members' attendance. Kasler said he would like the board to meet in the same place each month to further this initiative.
