A new Web site designed by Ohio University journalism students, Athensi.com, came into play Monday.

Athensi.com (http://www.athensi.com) includes links to news from local media, calendars of community events and local businesses. Site visitors also can check out a chat room and up-to-the-minute weather information.

And now the Advanced Web Journalism students who oversee the site are adding a new feature to air local bands' concerts live, said Stacy Puzo, a junior broadcasting major and a producer of the band feature.

"Every Friday we are hoping to have a band play in the Scripps Studio," she said.

Internet visitors can view the concerts by clicking on the Scripps Studio Session button, Puzo said.

Southeast Engine, an original folk rock band, will be the first to play about five songs at 4 p.m. Friday on the site, she said.

The concert will include one song on video and audio, while all other songs only will be aired in audio format, Puzo said.

After bands play, interested viewers can view performances in an archive section on the site, said Robert K. Stewart, project supervisor and professor of the Advanced Web Journalism class.

"We are not sure when every band will play; we don't have a set time every week," he said.

The site will be updated five days a week from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., said John Minerva, a senior public relations major who promotes Athensi.com.

"We put information on the Web site that we think is vital to the people of Athens," he said.

Links to The Athens Messenger, The Athens news, The Post, ACTV-7 News are on the Web site.

The idea for the site was born last year after members of a News Management class proposed to form a centralized location for Athens residents to get news and information about the city, Minerva said.

Puzo said local bands and music fans will enjoy the site.

"Athens has always had such a great music scene," she said. "It gives local bands a chance to show off their talents and let people listen to their music."
