AKA & BSCPB: Welcomes Debonair in Concert
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Black Student
Cultural Programming Board are scheduled to sponsor Debonair in Concert
at 9 p.m. Saturday in Baker Center Ballroom. The event is free to the
general public and will be followed by a party ($1 admission).
The Cincinnati-based Debonair, whose members consist of OU senior
Marcus Headlum, OU alum Andre Edwards, Ronald Brown and David Annett met
while they were attending Walnut Hills High School. They began performing
together seven years ago in high school talent shows and became an official
group four years ago.
"Our musical style is classic rhythm & blues, jazz and hip-hop,"
Headlum said. "Our musical influences stem from Shai to Boys II Men and
from Teddy Pendergrass to Luther Vandross."
Debonair has performed in several events throughout Cincinnati including
Ujima CincyBration, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Midwest Regional
Convention and the Cincinnati River City Classic.
Locally, Debonair has performed at the Phi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha,
the Student African American Brotherhood's "Tribute to Mothers" and the
BSCPB's "Sibs Weekend Variety Show."
Debonair is looking forward to a bright future. They are preparing
a demo tape to shop around to major record labels throughout the United
States.
The event will also feature a guest performance by OU's own Los Disco
(Ladies of Soul Dancing In Sync Company).
Music is a universal language and Alpha Kappa Alpha and BSCPB are
looking for a diverse audience. --Jeevon Harris
