evacuating their home near Alpine, Calif. Hundreds of people
fled a wind-driven wildfire that raced over more than 3,000
acres in the area, Wednesday, burning homes and raining ash
on San Diego, 30 miles away. Residents scrambled to get animals
out of the area, riding out prized horses and loading goats
into pickup trucks. Some simply let their livestock run free.
