With so much going for it, All the Pretty Horses seems
like a guaranteed hit. Based on the award-winning novel by Cormac
McCarthy, the movie is a modern western, and there is the promise
of a Matt Damon/Penelope Cruz romance. Nevertheless, Billy Bob Thornton's
latest directorial effort is a botched affair. It is not bad, but
it is not compelling either. Like the horses themselves, the film
makes it out of the corral, but not much happens after that....

A Trans World Airline passenger jet takes off
as another one taxis towards the runway yesterday,
at Lambert International Airport, TWA's main hub,
in St. Louis. American Airlines reportedly will
announce plans this week to buy financially troubled
Trans World Airlines Inc., a proposal that would
mean the end of TWA, the oldest continuous line
in American commercial aviation.
