New traffic pattern to be instated

The intersection of North McKinley Avenue and Race Street will be changed back to a three-way stop on Jan.16, said Steve Nofts, a lieutenant the for Ohio University Police Department.

Implementing a three-way stop will help alleviate heavy motorist and pedestrian traffic. The new system also will keep the streets safer, Noft said.

For the past two months, only the southbound traffic on McKinley has stopped.

Signs will be posted in the area warning motorists of the new traffic pattern, Nofts said. The three-way stop is expected to be permanent.
