MTV glams up halftime

Always a television event to behold, the Super Bowl is a viewing spectacular. This year's special Sunday promises to be great viewing as well, even if you don't plan on watching the big game itself.

If you're the type whose real interest is in the halftime show, then you're in for a real treat. That's because along with E*trade, MTV is sponsoring this year's show, featuring performances by Aerosmith and 'N Sync. The real question is will 'N Sync follow the lead of Run DMC and join Aerosmith for a rousing version of "Walk this Way?"

According to MTV's Web site (http://www.mtv.com), there will also be special lighting and sound effects that will "turn the stadium into the most monumental concert stage you've ever seen."

MTV is also broadcasting special editions of their own shows all day Sunday directly from Raymond James Stadium, the site of the Super Bowl. ••Total Request Live•• and ••Direct FX•• will kick things off, with ••Rock 'N Jock Super Bowl•• and ••True Life: I'm an NFL Rookie•• bringing it to the house.

Elsewhere on the cable spectrum, The Cartoon Network will be showing ••Bugs vs. Daffy••, starting at the same time as the big game. According to Cartoon Network's Web site (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com), Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck will go "whisker-to-beak." There also will be featured celebrity analysis, commercial spoofs and a special halftime show featuring one of the Cartoon Network's biggest stars.

Those needing to keep that testosterone level high after the game can tune into Comedy Central. The channel will feature a special Super Bowl edition of ••The Man Show•• at 10 p.m.

For those who have no fond inclinations toward the Giants or Ravens, check out TBS. Starting at 10 a.m. with ••Sixteen Candles••, TBS is making the entire day a "Super Movie Sunday". Viewers can catch such heartwarming dramas as ••The Prince of Tides••, ••Steel Magnolias•• and ••Selena••.

If none of these options sound good, you can always prepare for classes and hit the books. Yeah...right.
