MAC 'Sees' the light
Outfielder Andrew See was the second Ohio baseball player
to be named MAC Player of the Week this season. See won the award for
the fourth week of the 200 season after batting .662 (13-for-19) and driving
in 12 runs in a five game span. He scored nine runs, hit three homeruns
and had three doubles. Two of his homers came in the second game of a
doubleheader against Toledo on Saturday, a game in which he drove in six
of the Bobcats' runs in a 17-8 loss to the Toledo Rockets.
Geib Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week
Ohio track and field athlete Katie Geib was the female winner of the
MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending on March 28, 2000.
Geib, who has a 3.89 Grade Point Average in engineering, won two events
at the Navy Invitational last weekend. She won the 800-meter dash with
a time of two minutes, 14.9 seconds and tied for first place in the long
jump with a distance of 1.64 meters.
This honor is presented to one male and one female student athlete
from MAC who has a cumulative GPA over 3.0 and performed well in that
week's competition. Kent basketball player Demetric Shaw was the male
winner.
Ohio's Converse and Conrad Named Academic All-Americans
Ohio cross country runners Melissa Converse and Jackie Conrad earned
Academic All-America honors from the NCAA Cross Country Coaches Association.
To qualify for this honor, a student athlete must have at least a 3.25
grade-point average with either a top 10-percent finish in the NCAA Regionals
or named a qualifier for the NCAA Championships.
In 1999, Converse finished 12th and Conrad finished 19th at the NCAA
Regional Championships. Converse qualified for the NCAA Championships
for the second consecutive year and placed 43rd in the event. Both Converse
and Conrad were named to the All-MAC and All-District Cross Country teams
last fall.
