Court Street Diner, 18 N. Court St., is a great place to grab a hamburger and french fries. The restaurant has a charming 1950s theme and includes old movie and record posters along the walls. Diners hungry for nostalgia can hear golden oldies on the jukebox.

The menu offerings are typical diner fare. You can expect to get good burgers, fries, mac and cheese and club sandwiches. You can also choose from specialties such as Mom's meatloaf sandwich or Grandpa's pork tenderloin. And breakfast eaters will delight in the wide selection of goodies for early risers. If you're late, don't despair – breakfast is served all day.

Court Street Diner offers daily specials as well as Early Bird and Night Owl deals. Its Early Bird selection, which you can enjoy from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., includes favorites such as french toast and Belgian waffles. On Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 3 a.m., the Diner has nine items for $2.99.

Even when you don't get a special from Court Street Diner, its prices are generally reasonable, but some of the salads are too expensive.

The windows are a great part of the dining experience. Because of its central Uptown location, Court Street Diner is a great spot for people watching anytime.

The casually dressed servers are friendly and fast. One can easily have a relaxing lunch in under an hour.

For lunch, I ordered a cheeseburger, french fries and a vanilla shake for $5.99. The milk shake was delicious and more than I could drink, and I was served more food than I expected. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

So if you are hungry for some classic American food and enjoy keeping tabs on passers-by, then Court Street Diner is a great place to go.
