Relay for Life hits Athens soon
Ohio University students and community members will walk
and run from 7 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday. Participants will meet
at Alexander High School in Albany to help in the battle against cancer
during the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Teams from all over
Athens County will come together for a 24-hour relay.
"As of now there are about 30 teams with 10 to 15 people, and all of
the teams but four are OU college students," said Wendy Rogers, Athens
County Relay for Life chairwoman.
Relay for Life is an overnight team event in which participants can
walk or run around a track relay-style. When the participants are not
moving around the track they can take part in different activities from
line to karaoke with Wesley Student Center to Bingo under the tents. Teams
from companies and organization collect donations and can win prizes with
the activities.
The funds raised will help expand the services to cancer patients
with more educational programs that will reduce people's risk of getting
cancer, and help toward cancer research programs.
The event is open to the public. For more information call Wendy
Rogers at (740) 597-6784 or send an e-mail to her at rogersw@ohio.edu.
