Don't Forget AFROTC

Editor,

I am writing in response to your May 17, Post article, "ROTC trains students for life of leadership," to remind you and your readers that Ohio University also offers Air Force ROTC, which the writer failed to mention.

Air Force ROTC prepares and trains students for commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force. AFROTC has been an integral part of OU since the establishment of the Air Force in 1947 and has produced hundreds of successful graduates in all areas of military and civilian life. Air Force ROTC cadets learn leadership and airmanship in the Cadet Wing through drill (marching), physical training and orientation flights aboard military aircraft. AFROTC offers both two- and four-year programs.

Freshmen and sophomores can join the AFROTC program for up to two years with no military obligation. The final two years of training follow the completion of a field-training encampment that challenges a cadet's leadership potential. During those last two years, cadets are placed in various leadership positions within the Cadet Wing to plan and organize training activities preparing the underclass cadets for Field Training.

Personally, joining AFROTC at OU is one of the best decisions I have made. During the past four years, I have traveled all over the country, made many lasting friendships and financed my education - all through a commitment to serve my country.
