The Ohio Wrestling team opened up its season at the West Virginia University Open in singles competition. Dan Bednar (197) and Ryan Smith (157) won their respective weight classes while Anthony Carrizales (133) and John Wervey (165) placed second and third.

Bednar went 5-0 in the tournament, defeating Michael Bigrigs, 3-1 for the championship. Smith also went 5-0, defeating Tyrone Neal of Eastern Michigan 3-1. Carrizales went 4-1, losing in the championship match to Travis Drake of Appalachian State, getting pinned at 4:48. Wervey compiled a 6-1 record and defeated Charles Martelli of Michigan for third place.

Paul Hodermarsky and Luke Moore both had successful weekends before withdrawing with injuries. Hodemarsky (133) went 5-1 and Moore (174) 3-1. Both wrestlers withdrew from the tournament, denying an opportunity to wrestle for a spot in their classes' third-place matches. Barry Saley went 5-2 before having his fifth-place match cancelled.

The Bobcats will be back in action when they travel to Lock Haven, Pa. for the Mat Town Tournament at 9 a.m. Nov. 25.
