Women’s ultimate team gearing up for spring
Last weekend was not all fun and games for the
women’s club ultimate Frisbee team in its annual Halloween tournament.
The team uses the tournament, and the fall season
in general, to recruit new members, introduce the game to new players
and scope the competition in preparation for its regional competition.
The women’s ultimate team finished fifth in
regional competition last year and third the year before, but only the
top two teams advance to nationals.
Women’s club ultimate Frisbee president Lindsay
Neary said getting over the hump and qualifying for Nationals starts now.
“It’ll take a lot of work,” Neary said. “We’ve
got to be strong mentally.”
The team went 2-2 in its own tournament last
weekend and 5-1 earlier this season in a tournament at Purdue.
“We’ve built a good foundation,” Neary said.
“And we’re hoping for a breakthrough year.”
Women’s rugby has full weekend
The women’s club rugby team defeated Eastern
Suburbs 44-12 on Saturday, preparing Ohio for games against Miami and
Wright State in Athens this weekend.
Kyra Eversman led the way for the Bobcats against
Eastern Suburbs, scoring three tries in the match.
Despite the big win, the team has focused its
attention toward the two big matches this weekend. Women’s club rugby
president Amber O’Connor said the entire rugby team has been looking forward
to their matches against Miami and Wright State for sometime.
Ohio takes the field against the RedHawks at
11 a.m. and Wright State at noon Saturday at the South Green Intramural
Fields.
