GSS president wants group that funds projects clarified

Ohio University Graduate Student Senate discussed the success of its welcome party and GSS committees at last night's meeting.

Vice president Vivek Shinde Patil reported roughly 150 people attended the GSS welcome party in Baker University Center Oct. 1. In a survey distributed at the event, 86 percent of students said that they had not approached the GSS with their concerns in the past.

Senators also joined committees, including the Social and Cultural Activities and the Graduate Student Affairs committees. GSS President Larisa Zelenskaya expressed concern about the Houk Committee, which she said has not reported effectively to the GSS.

Zelenskaya asked senator James Ochwa-Echel, chairman of the Houk Committee, to submit a written explanation of the Houk Committee by Thursday. She said the report could clear up misconceptions about the Houk Committee, which reviews research proposals to determine which projects receive university funding.

Secretary Muna Al-Jardani resigned; Senator Aswini Pai now will serve as GSS secretary.
