A Forum for Your Rights meeting was sponsored last night by the University Program Council to inform students of rights and responsibilities on Halloween weekend.

Representatives from various organizations, including Ohio University Office of Judiciaries, Students' Civil Rights Union and Student Senate, spoke at the meeting at 7 p.m. in Baker Center Ballroom.

"My advice would be to cooperate," said Joseph Burke, OU director of residence life. "The time to get in an argument is not with the police at that time."

Other advice included:

n Students are responsible for the behavior of their guest.

n Guests should have a copy of their host's address and phone number.

n Reserve the right to remain silent.

n An officer can make an arrest when witnessing a violation of a city ordinance, state statute or federal law, according to a pamphlet by the Ohio State Bar Association.

"Just don't be stupid," said Ed Hastie of Students' Civil Rights Union.
