The Ohio University Student
Senate adopted their eleventh resolution of the quarter last night, urging
the student body to support fellow students and alumni who are members
in the armed forces.
“This resolution will show gratitude
for those who have left their school and jobs to give time to their country,”
Senator-at-large Jared Leibold said.
Cara Lewis, a
representative with the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards,
presented information to senators about applying for scholarships and
gave out brochures to supplement her presentation.
“This program allows students
to develop their goals and future plans by applying for prestigious scholarships,”
Lewis said.
Greek Life Senator Adam Bodenmiller
introduced the Student Senate and The Center for Student Advocacy Rights
and Safety Awareness Card, which includes tips for students who are stopped
by police as well as important phone numbers students can use if they
are arrested. Bodenmiller said the cards will be distributed to students
next week.
“The card will be very useful
during Halloween weekend, and students will be aware of what to do in
case they are stopped for questioning,” Bodenmiller said. A resolution
will be announced next week on the “Know your rights” cards.
University Life Commissioner
Dustin Wood brought senators up to speed on the new campus wide online
book exchange Web site. Wood provided brief information about it. The
domain name for the Web site has not yet been released.
“The Web site will allow students
to sell books, buy books and save money on used textbooks,” Wood said.
In other senate news, the Women’s
Affairs Commission still is trying to increase the lighting on campus
and improve campus escort, said Anna Jagelewski, women’s affairs commissioner.
