Ohio rowers take on the world

by Tim Trainor

The Ohio club men’s crew team placed 30th and the women’s team 44th in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. last Saturday.

Part of the eight-man boat, rower Mike Clevidence said he was not sure how the team would fare against other varsity boats from all over the United States and Europe, including Scotland, Ireland and England.

“It was a great race to build off,” Clevidence said. “We were all happy with our finish.”

It was only the second race of the season for the team, but Clevidence said the team is starting off fast.

“Thing are really coming together,” Clevidence said. “We can’t wait to get out there and do it again.”

Men’s soccer completes weekend sweep

The Ohio club men’s soccer team (7-1-4) defeated Ohio State, Ball State and Bowling Green last weekend.

Brenden Berry scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win for the Bobcats against Ohio State to begin the weekend.

Later that day, Darren Butler scored a hat trick to lead Ohio past Ball State 3-1.

Everyone chipped in for the weekend finale, as Brant, Kyle Bray, Jack Wright and Brian Stewart scored in a 4-1 route against Bowling Green.

“It was a great way to finish the season,” Brant said.

The men’s soccer team starts regional play this weekend in Bloomington, Ind., where it will play Illinois and Dayton.  If the team wins both, it will advance to semifinal action with a chance to qualify for nationals.
