American Red Cross to sponsor CPR and first aid courses

The American Red Cross will be sponsoring a community first aid and safety course from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Red Cross building, 100 S. May Ave., in Athens.

The course includes instruction on community CPR, which will enable participants to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, infants and children.

It also covers first aid information on cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and controlling bleeding. The course also teaches participants how to deal with shock, seizure and injuries to bone, muscles and joints, as well as poisoning.

The cost is $45 per student, which includes a book. To sign up or for more information contact the American Red Cross at 593-5273.
