The second annual Ohio Chile Pepper Festival kicks
off today in Glouster at Trimble Local High School. The festival, which
lasts through Sunday, will feature the coronation of a new Chile Pepper
King and Queen, a hot pepper eating contest, a Salsa Awards Presentation
and musical entertainment from a number of local bands.
Festivities begin at 6 tonight with live music. Saturday's highlights
include the coronation of the Chile Pepper King and Queen at 1 p.m. and
the hot pepper eating contest at 3:30 p.m.
In addition, 25 salsa manufacturers from around the state have been
invited to compete in a salsa competition. A panel of chefs will judge
the salsas with ratings based on aroma, appearance, texture and taste.
Other activities at the festival include karaoke, sports tournaments,
a car show, a craft show and a parade.
