Ohio University Student Senate passed a resolution yesterday supporting the senior administration’s decision to accept a salary freeze for the upcoming fiscal year, a move one senator called “a little less controversial” than senate’s original plan to call for the salary freezes.
OU President Roderick McDavis and 27 other upper-level administrators announced Monday that they would agree to a salary freeze for the fiscal year beginning July 1. It is estimated that the freezes will save $150,000.
“We were going to go toe-to-toe, but now it just seems appropriate to thank them,” said Patrick Heery, academic affairs senator.
Senate also passed a resolution expressing condolences to those affected by Monday’s Virginia Tech shooting, a tragedy that hit close to home for at-large senator and Virginia native Matt Bell, who knew two victims.
“I spent most of the day in disbelief and shock,” Bell said. “It is tragic that it happened at a university campus.”
